Carbonate sedimentary rocks consists primarily of one of the carbonate minerals. Many of them are widely found in nature. This is particularly true of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), which is frequently found in thick layers that have formed from sediment collecting in seas.
Travertine, together with the loose freshwater carbonate rocks can be found in the upper layers of the earth, close to the surface. It has formed at the same time as the sediments of rivers and streams in the period after the ice age (Holocene) about 6 000 to 10 000 years ago, when the climate in Latvia was favourable for long-term sedimentation of calcium carbonate. Carbonate from the water settled on plants and thus one can frequently find moss encrusted within travertine – calcified reeds, tree branches and leaves. The mass of the fragile carbonate gradually started to harden, at the same time changing also in structure – thus calcifying into calcite crystals. Latvia is among the hundreds of places of freshwater carbonate deposits, but only in a few of them is travertine found.
Due to the decorative properties of travertine – its soft-grey colour and porous grain, as well as the fact that it is easily sculpted, it is popular to use as a decorative material for monuments and buildings. From all the Baltic countries, Latvia is the only one to have travertine in its soil.

I tell you! If all events were like this one, I'd have to fire most of my staff! After more than 5,000 people spent hours in the sand dunes - not one piece of garbage left behind! Almost no disruption of the surroundings!
Thank you for creating such an amazing, wondrously beautiful, true and gratifying art! May you have enough creativity for many more years
The Oss year's concert is of special significance to me personally as after the Ogre concert, under the dome of stars - I asked my then-girlfriend to be my wife!
Once I was stopped in a shopping mall by a couple. They complained that under the influence of our event, their son was asking for a microscope - not latest toy - for Christmas.
Thanks to all musicians and people who can create something with such synchronicity of the soul, science, meditation and other emotions!
